My daughter is 3 and has had bowel movement problems for about a year. When it first started I thought that her not “going” was a result of trying to potty train her and so I put that on hold trying to figure this problem out. She eats healthy, loves fruit, and while she does love her chocolate soy milk (she was allergic to reg milk as a baby) she mostly wants water to drink. She has always loved apples, applesauce, and bananas and with vegetables she likes peas and corn. I talked to her doctor a few months ago when the problem started getting worse and she said that apples, applesauce, and bananas can cause constipation and that fruits like strawberries, blue berries, and other darker fruits are better. The strawberries are great because Shelby loves them but I think she’s getting a little tired of them because I try to make sure she gets them about every day. She’s not big on raspberries or blue berries.
With the strawberries things have been going great (started pooping a lot better) but last week we were hardly home and were eating out a lot because we had our taxes done, got a new car, and did a lot of running around. Now I feel like I’m starting all over again with the strawberries.
My big point is, I don’t believe that feeding my daughter strawberries everyday is the answer. I don’t want to keep her drugged up on medicine all the time, but something has got to be done. When I talked to Shelby’s doctor about the problem, she was in for a flu shot. The doctor didn’t even examine Shelby. She has had so much of a hard time pooping that she cries. About a month after talking to the doctor I almost took Shelby to the emergency room on a Saturday morning because she was screaming and crying because she was trying to poop. By the time I got her ready though, things were fine.
Should I look into getting new doctor to find a solution to the problem? How do I know that she’s not rupturing something when trying to poop? She’s 3 years old and should not be having this problem.

My son will be one on the 19th of this month. The daycare informed me this morning that he will need another can of formula Monday. He is there all next week (5 days) but then gone the following week because I have taken the week off to celebrate his birthday with him.So, I was talking to the daycare about how I really didn’t want to buy a whole can of formula for just 5 days before switching him to whole milk. She said that they could just give him milk if I wanted them to next week. I told them I wanted to talk to my doctor first.
Here are a couple problems;
**The nurse told me I had to wait to talk to the doc at his 12 month appt. His one year appt is not until after he turns one though due to scheduling issues.
** Since I stopped nursing him at 8 months, he has needed to be on soy formula because of constipation issues with regular formula.
**He is on the small end (10th percentile)
So here are my questions…
1) Is it ok to switch him next week?
2) Should I stay with regular OR stage 2 formula due to his small size?
3) What are your experiences with going from soy formula to regular whole milk? Did your child need to be on soy milk?
I have heard many parents that quit breastfeeding at 9 months and switched right over to whole milk with no problems, so I really don’t see a week being a big deal, of course my nurse was like “well we reccomend 12 months…” the whole doctor deal…
Thanks!

My daughter has been to the ER several times, and to her doc + other doctors tons of times in the past few weeks for my childs reallly bad constipation, we have tried every lastive known to man, and have even tried stool softner. I know this is something we will have to wait and find out when she goes for her specialist visit June 1st, but thats a week away and i atleast want a clue to what might be wrong, or something that will help. I’m so sick of seeing my child scream her head off everytime she tries to stinky. i know this sounds wrong and cruel but im even tired of praying. I feel like something is extremely wrong and no one seems to really even care ( doctor wise ) or i feel like she want last another week. I know i shouldnt feel this way, but im really worried. She has regular bowel movements, but it be’s so hard and big that she cant pass it. They doctors did a xray on her belly to check her colin and it wasnt expanded or anything. I just dont understand. She doesnt eat hard foods, she chews up good, and mostly she only eats green beans, carrotts, brocilli, barely no meats. and she drinks plenty of juice, water, etc. Please someone that has been through this, when your child got treated what was the whole problem, maybe i can point towards this and suggest it to her doc.

Mine recommends 1 to 2 Tablespoons six times a day, and says its safe to drink an entire bottle a day if necessary to relieve constipation. If your pediatrician has recommended this, did your child actually ingest the stuff and did it work well and keep him regulated? Thanks for answering.
