I love milk and drank it all the time as a child and teenager. Now that I am much older [70] I find that I cannot drink it.

It’s the lactid acid or lactose sugar which aggravate your problems with dairy products. You can still enjoy milk, try SOY Milk. It tastes great and you wouldn’t have to face constipation again

Question by Tabbie: Infant constipation while drinking whole milk, need some suggestions please?
My daughter is now 10 months. Since she was 8 1/2 months we have been slowly switching her to whole milk. And yes her doctor knows about this. They said to do it slowly. So we have been doing 7oz formula 1oz whole milk for a week, then it’s 6-2, 5-3…etc. The problem is this: when she gets to 4-4, she become badly constipated. I try to continue it for a couple days so she can get used to it, but she only gets worse. The last time it was so bad she slightly bled from straining. Not much, just enough to barely see it on her stool. I’ve told her dr. about this too. And they say to start over again, it’s supposed to help her system get used to it even more. But everytime we get to 4-4, she gets badly constipated. Should we try another milk? Like 2% or something.
she isn’t on a cow’s milk based formula yet. and when i make her bottle it’s not milk and the formula powder. and i trust her dr.very much. she was my pedi when i was little, and my siblings also.
and like i said she does fine until she reaches half and half. oh and it’s not every bottle either. i do every other bottle. she has been early for everything. she started baby foods at 3 months and table foods at 5 months.
currently she’s not having anything other than a bottle. she’s been sick with infections and a cold. so just getting her to take a bottle is a struggle.
oh and mistic: you’re the dumbass. i am asking for honest answers. not someone to tell me a bad mom.

Question by Collin’s mommy!!: Has anyone ever used Milk of Magnesia to treat their infant’s constipation, if so how much and did it work?
My 2 month old is constipated and the doc told me to use a half teaspoon of Milk of Magnesia. Isn’t that a big dose?

Your doctor should know what to use and how much; after all he/she went to medical school. If you want, call your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist. I wouldn’t go by anything about dosage that you get for answers on here.

Question by Serena: How can I avoid my daughter having constipation when switching from formula to whole milk?
I’ve heard that drinking whole milk can cause constipation and I’d like to avoid that with my 1 year old daughter. I’ve also heard that putting some karo syrup in the milk will help but I don’t know how much to put in; can anyone help?

Question by ShirleyGurley: Can Soy Milk cause constipation? What are the affects of drinking too much soy? Foods that help constipation?
I have bad constipation and bowel problems, and I’m also lactose intollerant (milk makes my constipation worse), so I’ve been drinking 4 glasses of soy milk a day, eating soy cheese, and drinking a soy protein drink. Is that too much soy, and does soy cause constipation? I take magnesium and miralax for the constipation, but what foods might help the constipation (besides prunes)?

Soy milk/products might, because it has a lot of protein in it. Try All-Bran buds in the morning with just a bit of your soy milk, and try to drink a lot of water as well.
