I just got out of school and have stopped drinking as much water and stop exercising. Its only been like 5 days but now when I eat my stomach hurts and I have like intestinal pain. I was told it may be constipation, I started drinking more water and moving around more but do you know any home remidies like olive oil or something I would keep around the house?

A simple one to try is some apple juice, that works for a lot of people. Of course so does prune juice but you might not have that around, and it’s nasty tasting to some people.

Question by CHEESY ?: Grandma needs help! Infant Constipation. Home Remedy?
My grandson is 5 months old and the poor little guy is constipated and just screams when he does have a bowel movement. What’s some good ol’ fashioned Grandma advice?

I’m not sure about this as he is very young. Mineral oil has proven to be effective with my children. It’s tasteless and fast acting.

[Edit] I forgot to mention that on urgent cases we would use the glycerin supository, gently applied.

Question by SuePayne: Is there a home remedy for constipation of a child?
My 6 year old son has trouble using the restroom sometimes. Some weeks he’ll go 2,3 & 4 days without being able to have a bowl movement and then when he finally does go he usually strains and it’s larger than normal for his age. I know he’s a growing child, but this is ridiculous. I’m wondering if there’s an easy remedy. I hate strong over-the-counter laxatives because those can cause so many other problems. Can I make him like herbal peppermint tea? Or mix syrup or honey in a cup of water. I need some ideas, please. The doctor says there’s nothing wrong with him, but I don’t like how he has so much trouble just using the restroom. He says it gets so difficult that he doesn’t want to try #2 when he’s at school. That part I know can’t be good on a young boy. Thank you for any helpful advice or tips

Prune juice or grape juice are safe natural ways. Make sure he gets some fiber. get him to eat raisin bran for a few days, it always helped me when I was pregnant.

Question by mrs_b2008: I need a home remedy for constipation for my 6 month old baby?
I have tried changes in her diet, movement of her legs, giving her water and juice. The doctor recommended a laxative, but the brand she recommended had a warning for children under age 16! I am not comfortable giving that to an infant. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try taking her temp rectally. You can also try baby food Prunes.
I was told you can take a bulb (like the nose suction thingie) and fill it with warm water and do a enema to get things going as well. My daughter went 12 days without a BM and we eventually needed a RX for a suppository to get things going.
