Question by N.Liz: Anyone ever used brown sugar as a relief aid to treat infant constipation?
We took our 10 month old son to the walk in tonight. He is suffering with constipation, the poor kid is straining and screaming while he poops. I have to open his legs and push on his bum cheeks to help him work it out a bit faster so he isn’t in so much pain for so long. When it does come out it is very hard and seemingly too wide to pass through his bottom with comfort. So as a remedy the doctor advised we use brown sugar in his bottle to help him with the constipation. Just wondered if anyone else has ever done this before and how successful it was for you. Because as I have said, my son is seriously suffering, and I can’t stand to see him this way.
Also, he eats plenty of veg and fruit, oatmeal, and tried prunes/pears but they don’t seem to help. He gets a bit of water and soy formula.

I have never heard of brown sugar as a remedy to relieve constipation, but my daughter suffers aswell, My doc said to gives her lansoyl, its a red jelly, that helps soften the poop. Google it, I swear by this stuff!

Question by hawkgirl: Has anyone ever taken their infant to a chiropractor to help for constipation and reflux?

Best answer:

Answer by Deans
Yes. My newborn had reflux really bad. The dr had him on zantac. He went 3 times. I feel like it worked because I took him off med and the reflux disappeared within a couple weeks. I can’t imagine he grew out of the reflux that fast. He was only a month, and it was pretty severe. He still spits up, but no painful sounds with it anymore. He’s 8 weeks now. His crying doesn’t sound painful anymore either.

Question by Ashley-Austin and Ava’s Mom: Has anyone given their child Miralax for constipation – long term?
My son was born with a *condition* where he will most likely suffer from chronic constipation for the rest of his life. The only thing I’ve found that eases this is Miralax – he gets half a cap full every night. I’ve recently read a few things that say long term use of Miralax in children is not good – but I can’t find any details!?! I’m afraid that I may have done long term damage to my son but I just wanted him to be able to poop!! Has anybody ever used this for a long period of time or have you heard of any long term negative side effects??
He had a *condition* that was surgically corrected at birth, but he is left with lifelong chronic constipation. I guess condition isn’t the correct word – I just don’t want to get into all the details…
