Stool softener. You can get it in either tablets or liquid. Colace was the brand I used to buy for my son. It worked with no discomfort or cramps.

How old is the child? You can give them some warm apple juice, or a very small amount of purn juice.

Try fedding the child raisins, prunes, fresh apples, Flaxseed oil, carrot juice, beets, honey. Also try apple juice, prune juice, I sometimes mix the apple and prune juice together. Also try taking away diary products, and give soy milk. My little sister stays constipated when she has diary products.
if you have an infant, you can mix one teaspoon of Dark Corn syrup to the formula a few bottles a day. Make sure the child is eating enough fiber. Here are some foods that arent good during constipation times…White flour and sugar, cheese, strawberries, and sometime bananas are constipating, it depends on the person. That is why when kids have diaherra and vomiting the doctor recommands the BRAT diet, Bananas, Rice, Apples, and Toast. Good Luck. Also you might go to the local health food store and ask if they have childrens proboditics.

If the child is age 4-12, I would give him/her a cup of senna tea at bedtime. Go to your herbal tea section at your market or health food store. Don’t do that for more than 2 days. To keep your child healthy and moving along he/she needs to eat plenty of fiber – fresh raw fruits and veggies, oatmeal and whole grained bread and get lots of exercise and drink plenty of water EVERY DAY.
Foods to avoid when constipated: pizza, cheese, white bread, white rice, bananas and apple juice.
