My son has had trouble going to the loo for a poo since he was potty training and has always suffered with constipation although he does not get stomachache and just seems to have a really slow bowel. I give him lots of fresh fruit and fibre. My husband is a chef and I have Crohn’s disease so we have a healthy diet. I have been told Flax seed is good – has anyone else tried this or can you recommend anything else I could try??

Hi, my son has same problem. I found that ensuring he has a good fluid intake and takes regular exercise that this helps. Fruit and fibre etc – healthy diet of course. Make sure he makes time to “go”. I also found keeping a (discreet) record of bowel movements helpful as it helped to establish a pattern as everybody different. This gave us a warning as to when he was getting constipated and so we could take action. He also did not suffer from tummy aches and was often seriously bunged up before realised.

I’ve had constipation since I was probably 5 and I still have it at 19. My dad bought Noni Juice for me and that worked very well. It’s a bit pricey, but it does work. Another juice I would suggest is prune juice. I’d suggest more fiber intake and definitely drink lots of water because the water pushes the bowel out.

Never tried Flax seed, but dried plums work all the time and my nieces love them.
